State Charity

2010-2011 State Project

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska, Montana, Northern Idaho & Washington grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Last year, the Foundation granted 307 wishes and will grant 340 wishes to children this year.

Since 1986, we have granted
more than 4,250 wishes!

Wishes are so important because a wish can provide a positive distraction from illness.

Letter from 10-year-old Zachary:

Wish: to be a Radio Disney DJ
A year ago I was diagnosed with cancer, for the second time. I also lost my vision at the same time because the tumor was in my skull and impacted my optic nerve. After nine months of disgusting chemotherapy Make-A-Wish sent me and my family on a relaxing trip to Disneyworld so that I could be a DJ at Radio Disney.
The trip was a blast, and being on the radio was a fun treat. I will remember dashing down the Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, rolling through the Rockin’ Roller Coaster at MGM Studios, and especially hanging around a radio station I had listened to since I was four years old. Our guide, Michelle, was a wonderful addition and really made the trip extra special.
It was a fun treat to get away from all the fuss in the hospital and spend time somewhere nice, warm, and relaxing. After a year of being split up by hospitalizations, it was healing to be together as a family. The whole trip was very memorable and really great. Thanks a million.

Letter from Wish Child, Sasha:

Wish: to go to Disneyworld
Thank you so much for making my wish come true. I cannot put into words how grateful I am to experience one of my childhood dreams. Because of my condition I never thought I would be able to travel down to Florida and visit Disneyworld.
You have given me such wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime. Not only have you given me the experience to live my wish, but you’ve made me feel special. I had many advantages at the theme parks, like going backstage to meet the characters and the goodies that were given to me. I appreciate everything and I will never forget any of this. Thank you and God bless always.

How you can help make wishes come true!
Kids for Wish Kids®

Students are amongst our youngest, but spirited, supporters. These special volunteers range from elementary to college and no matter what their age learn about the joy of giving to others while developing solid leadership skills. Each Kids for Wish Kids' project is entirely student-driven, from start to finish, with the guidance and support of parents, teachers and, of course, Make-A-Wish staff.
